Did You Know?

Washington County is the most diverse county in Oregon and home to high-tech companies and farms, medical manufacturers and wine makers, urbanites and rural dwellers - a rich mix of people, industry, and landscape. With over 575,000 residents, its population has more than doubled in the last 30 years! This growth has been positive in many ways, but it’s also put tremendous pressure on resources and communities. In fact, nearly one in eight residents lives at or below the federal poverty level and struggles to contribute to or benefit from the county’s prosperity. Tens of thousands make less than $25,000 per year while working full-time which makes them part of the rapidly growing “working poor.” Enter Washington County Thrives (aka “Thrives”). We believe safe, strong, vibrant communities are possible when all residents have a fair chance to succeed, and if basic needs go unmet, we all feel the impact. Thrives is focused on a comprehensive, long-term investment strategy in proven programs that support people on their path to self-sufficiency.
